Garbage graphics in systray

Got a strange problem today. The black behind the systray disappears and instead I have white "garbage". Anyone know why and how to fix it?

Running Kubuntu 9.04, proprietary NVIDIA drivers version 180. If I add something in the systray, the black might be back, but then when something goes out of the systray, the garbage is back.

i get a little of that w/ my ATI raideon hd4830 not that bad but the ocasional icon or two will have some "garbage"

i don't know how to fix it, like i said only sometimes but never all to long is it there... so i have not bothered even looking in to it.
