restricted fonts not being used [SOLVED]

I just upgraded to 9.04, and I am having problems with fonts. I have installed the restricted fonts and they show up in the font installer module. They are also available in writer and are used by firefox on web pages. The problem is that they are not being used elsewhere. Firefox tab labels, the menu bars, or even in Kopete. How can I get rid of this ugly block font and get the TTF fonts everywhere? This happened automatically on previous versions.

just in case anyone else was having this problem...

after installing the ttf fonts, in firefox go to edit->preferences->content and edit the default font. I foolishly assumed that this would be done automatically.
