How to enable system sound effects?

    Hi,

I am new to Kubuntu and I just loaded 9.04. Everything seems to be working fine with my sound card. I have sound when the desktop is loaded and I have sound through flash and let say youtube, but I cannot find where to enable sound effects for like when closing a window. I thought I would see an ICON for SOUND in the System Settings, but I don't. closest icon I see is multimedia.

I would appreciate any help on this.

    Thanks.

Check out the Notifications area in system settings, and start by selecting "kde window manager" in the Event Source dropdown box. Kubuntu doesn't use many sounds by default, but there are plenty of events to modify. The file dialog should open to where the various system sound files are stored

I don't think there are sound themes as such anymore

Thanks. I have made some progress. I was able to enable the sounds and depress the apply button, but the sounds don't play when I minimize or maximize the screens. I can play they sounds in the notification settings though.
