    Some jaunty problems

I have recently upgraded to Jaunty. No major problems with the update, everything worked but at some point
    some quirky things appeared:

    1) I start my computer and at the KDE login i cannot login to my account. KDE refuses to start. I have to go to console login and then startx by hand and it works. I have another account on the computer but it has not this problem (the other account can login fine directly to KDE).

    2) I cannot upgrade by clicking the icon in the toolbar which brings up the Software Updates window. It says i do not have privileges but it does not give me an option to go to root mode. Also if i open System Settings and i try to update from there it tells me the same thing (actually there is no option from System Settings to go to root mode as it was in the previous Kubuntu release i used - 7.10- so basically i cannot change anything from there that requires root privileges).

    3) System Settings - Network Settings - does not work as expected, meaning that i cannot edit my connections properly as there are too few options. Cannot choose PPP for example or any other advanced parameters - the window that appears when i edit the connection has only 2 tabs Ethernet and IP Address (i did configure my network from console).

    4) Firefox refuses to automatically update anymore. The option to specify the automatic update in Firefox for Firefox itself is unselected and grayed out.

Anyone has any ideas on how to sole the above?

    Thanks
