[SOLVED] Skype “Problem with Audio Playback”, was working before

    Hi,

I installed Kubuntu Juanty on my friend's laptop yesterday, and for the first day, everything was working great. Now, however, after he rebooted his computer today, Skype no longer works. It fails with the mesage: “Problem with Audio Playback”. I can fix this by setting the Sound Out device from Default to pulse. It will then make a call and I get sound out. But Sound In still no longer works, and it seems strange to have to route audio through PulseAudio. I don't know enough about Phonon to troubleshoot this issue, so I'd appreciate any guidance anyone can offer on it. Thanks,

    Jake

Found the solution. You'll never guess what it is:

    $sudo apt-get purge pulseaudio
    $sudo apt-get autoremove
    $sudo reboot

    Skype works fine now.

At least it's must easier to get off of Kubuntu than Ubuntu.

If I purge pulseaudio, won't I be able to play mp3 from Amarok?

I'm having a problem playing 2 audio sources simultaneously (Amarok & embedded video from Firefox), and I think it has something to do with pulseaudio...

        Thanks, that worked for me.

        DShad,
Yes, you can still play MP3s in Amorak. I checked.
