    Konquerer Home

Is there ANY way to get Konquerer to display my home directory instead of the Google search page

I have not been able to instruct Konquerer to do so.

I use Firefox for a web browser so having Konquerer try to act as one is not appreciated. The very few instances when I want Konquerer to act as a web browser, I can just type the URL in the location window at the top.

Why do developers do this?? Hardcode their preferences into s/w??

I just opened Konqueror in web browsing mode, selected Settings-> configure konqueror and put /home/flarson in my home page and it worked just fine. What could be simpler?

Yup, that's pretty damn easy . . . although I think he might have meant so that when it starts up period (you know, the no-page screen). Now that I'd like to change too, although not to make it load the home directory but just to add back the old options of "home" and "trash" and etc (I swear they're in the Windows version of KDE 4.2 too, so it must be a Kubuntu modification no? I can't say I've tried any other releases so I'm unsure what's default now).

Regardless, as to making the home button go to your home directory, for the sake of universality there's always

      Code:
      ~
since that'll work for anyone and everyone (probably superfluous to mention, but for some reason I love the "tilde equals home directory" thing).

OK, I forgot to select "Show My Homepage" from the drop down while I was in there. I guess that makes it twice as hard. I love ~. Is that what they use for the default in the file manager profile of Konqueror? I usually end up typing my ~.

Seems like a perfect place for this:
What about Storage Devices? Any thoughts how to get that to kick back into Konqueror.
A list of icons for the partitions on your system; not mounted per se, but right-click mountable.
          (e.g., As in 8.04.2).
Or, am I missing something obvious about 9.04?
(No Disk & Filesystems or such, not that I know of; I'm not a Dolphin user, but even there you must Label the partitions (say, in Gparted) to easily identify the icons on the left side bar).
I usually run 10-20 partitions on 1-2+ HDDs, and it's hard to keep them sorted in 9.04 GUI.

You might want to look at this.
            http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...opic=3103189.0
Get past my wrong answer and look at the image with places and then rog131's answer.

Anyway, I think you can open Dolphin and add a place for each partition, probably with a name, and then they will show up in the Computer tab of Application Launcher, although I am not sure how Abalone got quite the appearance he did.

Okay - I've been doing that for the past week or so -

              GUESS WHAT

I still get that stupid (stupid to me at least) Google search entry page.

Konquerer on my system FLAT OUT REFUSES to display my home directory: /home/terry

Just flat refuses to display that directory period, no matter what I set for the home page in the settings, no matter what I enter in the location bar, no matter what. It just flat refuses to display the directory and ALWAYS DISPLAYS the Google search entry page.

The ONLY way I can access folders branching off the home directory is to open the navigation panel and use that display to bring up the folders. As for files in my home directory, they are totally inaccessible through Konquerer.

              Now - any suggestions

Don't know if this will help or not.

Versions according to Konquerer -> Help -> About Konquerer

              Konquerer: 4.2.2
              KDE: 4.2.2

The first thing I would do is look at the permissions on /home, /home/terry and /home/terry/.kde and subdirectories of that. You may find things owned by root or with no write permission, or directories with no execute permission so they can not be listed.

Just did that - found 3 files owned by root and changed. Spent about 30 minutes going through all those hidden directories and found 3 folders under '.wine' owned by root - the drive folders. Changed.

                  Made no difference.

Konquerer still flatly refuses to display the home directory.

                  Second thing?

Do you have execute permission on /home/terry?
                    ls -l /home
                    would be interesting.

                      Short answer - yes.

                      Output of: ls -l /home

                      drwxr-xr-x 3 terry terry 1024 2009-03-26 16:24 backup1
                      drwxr-xr-x 3 terry terry 4096 2009-03-26 16:25 backup2
                      drwx------ 2 root root 16384 2008-05-16 12:19 lost+found
                      drwxr-xr-x 2 1002 1002 4096 2008-05-23 20:23 Maintenance
                      drwx------ 14 1001 1001 4096 2008-05-25 19:16 pearl
                      drwxr-xr-x 76 terry terry 4096 2009-04-29 20:45 terry
The last row is my home that Konquerer flatly refuses to display.

I can open Konquerer in admin mode and it will display /home/terry no problem. It will even display /root.
