problems with Firefox and Google Earth

Has anyone been successful installing Google Earth on 9.04? The linux file says it's for 8.04, but I tried it anyway and it appears to install properly, but won't launch and run.

Also, can anyone explain why Firefox always defaults to a half page display, justified to the left half of the display everytime it is launched? I've never seen this with earlier versions.

    Thanks!
    AMD Athlon 64 4800x2 ; Biostar Tforce 550 ; 2gb ; dual-boot Kubuntu 8.04 & Kubuntu 9.04; Dual-boot XP & Vista.

Google Earth 5 (GoogleEarthLinux.bin) draws the GUI then immediately outputs
./googleearth-bin: relocation error: /usr/lib/libssl.so.0.9.8: symbol BIO_test_flags, version OPENSSL_0.9.8 not defined in file libcrypto.so.0.9.8 with link time reference
    to the console and exits.

Google Earth 5.0 from the medibuntu jaunty repository works but the GUI is some sort of dreary blocky Windows 95 style.
