One machine has been relatively trouble-free on jaunty (believe I did a version upgrade on it). The other has given me a lot of trouble ever since a message saying to remove dpackagemgr or something like that). I haven't been able to add or delete packages ever since. Thinking my BIRO (several years old mobo) was bad, I put in a new modo (MG), CPU Athlon AM2 7750, and4G of DDR2 memory. I actually started with a different new mobo but with Best Buy Geek Squad's help fount that it ("reconditioned") was bad. After getting everything in, I found the box would run only 70-80 min. I found by using H/W Monitor that operating temps were well below max, I tried letting it run without logging in. No shutdown. Next I loaded jaunty beta from CD without installing. Still OK. For the past 2-3 hours it has been downloading and installing updates. When it finishes I'll give it a good workout then hope that my backup was complate (are they ever?) and install what I've done It's a 250G hd so maybe I won't lose anything.
