    Kde refuses to log out.

    I don't know if this has been talked about or fixed but I'm running the official (non-development) Kubuntu Jaunty and I can't logout/restart/shutdown etc.... without going to ctrl+alt+f1 and manually killing kdm or manually shutting down.

    I have my self set to auto login (i don't know if this makes a difference), I just can't seem to get kde to leave.

    It plays the logout sound empties the desktop of anything visible (blank screen and mouse cursor are all that's available) and that is it. Nothing else. Help!!!!

    Since the last upgrade, the day before yesterday, I have noticed the same thing, but mainly after I have run SecondLife. I will check the logs if it hangs tonight.

      In my case I fixed this for reboot by editing /etc/init.d/reboot at line 20, and removing the -d option to reboot, which is not supported by this version of reboot. After that worked I did something similar but a little more complicated in /etc/init.d/halt to get it to leave out the -d and -i options and it now works also.

        Great job, Mando!

        This is why I watch this forum before I post a bug report. Did you post a bug report, or shall I?

        Care to post your changes in the halt script?

        Never mind. I saw what needed to be done in those scripts. Thanks for pointing me to them!

          You can file the bug. I am not sure where it would go, probably to upstart. It also is really only applicable to amd64. For some reason the problem does not happen on x86, even though the halt executable has the same lack of a -d option, and my testing is limited to my own case.

          In /etc/init.d/halt I changed line 12 to
          NETDOWN=no
          and at line 63 removed the -d.

          It also does not fix the problem that when I choose "End Session" it reboots instead of just restarting the Xserver.

            mmm... I am using the i386 release and it began occurring on my installation. I never had the "End Session" problem. I'll test your fix and if it works on this x86 box then I'll make a bug post.

              Just tried the "End Session" and it hangs before the login screen is displayed. I have to manually use Ctl+Alt+Backspace (which I had activated) to get xserver to reboot and the login screen to display.

              So far, your fix on the halt script seems to work.
