I thought that konq now just runs dolphin as a kpart when used as a file manager? If so removing dolphin would break konqueror.

          Re: Removing Dolphin

What I noticed running 9.04 is that saving a picture from a web site in Firefox will now bring up Dolphin as the save interface.

And to the OP's dismay even Konqueror as a web browser uses this Dolphin interface!

Every dev hour spent on Dolphin should be used on other nice stuff I like 8) hehe.

So a way of showing my disappointment is to purge Dolphin from my system. But I can't...
