    Kubuntu 9.04 and Second Life!

This afternoon I downloaded this release of Second Life: SecondLife-i686-1.22.11.113941

I double clicked on the secondlife script to run it and logged on.

Second Life came up beautifully and worked very well on the default screen size.

Suddenly, I noticed a white dot floating over my head!!! Voice? Sure enough!!!
I clicked the "Talk On" button and gave a shout. The white dot started radiating green arcs! An avatar near by began talking with me.

I have been trying to get voice working on the Linux client in SL for two years. I did not have to do anything to get Kubuntu 9.04 to configure and use the microphone. It "Just worked".

I much prefer talking to typing in the "chat" box. It's a LOT faster and vocal inflections give much more info than smiley faces.

It really impressed me that Kubuntu 9.04 ran that version of SL without a problem. About a month ago I tried a previous version and it would crash when I began moving my avatar. Now, this version of SL and the near released updates of Jaunty make for a perfect combo!
