No, you're not a dumb user

Since coming over to Kubuntu, I keep asking myself why on earth did the developers spoil such a wonderful distro by choosing a package manager that won't even list "All packages"

Thanx, dibl - after all I'm no _that_ dumb: I installed synaptic back manually.

Yet issue remains: there is a _good_ (if not close to excellent) package manager (that _works_!!!) in the wild, but with KDE you get mean stuff.
Isn't KDE actually _meant_ for flexibility, richness of functionality, ease of management - an all this GUI based?

Is it just me, or is update-notifier-kde failing these days? Maybe I am just impatient, but I see updates when I run "aptitude update". But then again, no icon appears in the systray for updating.

        Anyone else noticed this?
Once your problem is solved please edit the first post of your topic and add [SOLVED] in front of the subject. In that way, others can benefit from your experience!

Running 9.04 KDE 4.3.2 here. Update Notifier works and displays just fine.

See this thread where we're having the exact same debate:

I only got a percentage bar, which doesn't tell me much.

Have I missed a setting or is it really this basic?
Kpackagekit is awful... it still is not ready for Debian users (just try installing Java with it!!!) and it's still in alpha stage. Why on earth they decided to ditch adept for it is far beyond me...
