The first thing is to update and try it again. I think kpackagekit uses refresh for this. I would do
    sudo aptitude update
    and then
    sudo aptitude -f full-upgrade
Most likely that will solve your problem. If not you should look carefully to see if you have some ppa sources in /etc/apt/sources.list that might be causing strange dependencies. If all else fails, wait until tomorrow, run update and upgrade again and see if it did not get fixed over night.

Yep, a lot of times these errors are on the packaging side of things, not on your side. Often you just wait a while and they go away on their own. If they persist for several days, however, then it's probably something on your end causing the issue.

I have been having the same problem. I installed adept and tried downloading, but with the same result. It could seem that the problem is with the packaging, and that waiting for a fix is all we can do.

I do not think the problem is in the packaging. I have two Jaunty systems in which that package is installed with no trouble. You may not have some repositories enabled that you need, or you may have some unofficial repositories enabled that are creating a conflict. The problem can be solved on your system.

I think kpackagekit has some way to go before it gets me as a fan. I dislike the total lack of information it gives you so far as progress is concerned. For all its faults adept does give you more information - in fact I have had occasions when sudo apt-get failed where adept actually worked! Odd, but true.

Mando_hackers instructions usually work so they are worth trying out. If you are more comfortable with a Gui you could try adept or synaptic. Type the package name (or at least the 1st 4 letters of it if using adept) so you can see if it is installed. If not, you can do so and importantly it will tell you what else you need and if there are any issues. You can do a reinstall there or you can purge and then reinstall. Importantly you will get information as to what has happened.
