Disappearing clipboard info

Don't know if anyone else has experienced this, but I have had some problems with clipboard.

Here is what happens.

I open a textdocument in Kate with a wepcode. I copy it with ctrl-c then close the document. I then try to paste it into the network widget. When I click ok, I get the same dialogue back. In the beginning, I did not understand what happened. But it turns out that if I just keep the document open, the code comes over just fine.

The text I copy to clipboard is deleted if I close the document it came from. Don't know if this is by design, but it is really annoying me because I often close the documents as a reflex.

I have the same problem and now I found, that there is maybe a solution out there, so I try to bring this topic back.

I'm not sure about Jaunty, but in Hardy Klipper helps with this problem. If I copy text from a web page and then close Firefox, the text can not be pasted (ctrl+v) into Kate. I left click on Klipper in my panel and then click on my copied text from the list. The text may then be pasted into Kate.

Sorry I don't have Jaunty running to try this.

Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V (copy / paste) does not always work between all applications. In most cases however, using the mouse - right-click Copy - and the in the other application - right-click Paste - should work.

That sounds like a bug to me :-) Maybe not a technical bug, but at least a usability bug? These shortcuts are some of the most well known around and it does not help much to say to someone that "It works a bit different on this system..."

Me, and a lot of others with me, try to use the mouse as little as possible to avoid carpal tunnel syndrome. These shortcuts help a lot in that respect.

Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V have never worked from the KDE desktop (or a browser window) to the Konsole, as far as I can remember. It has always been mouse "copy" and "paste" to do that. I agree universal functionality would be nice to have.

True, but that is actually also something you find on other OS'es :-) If not universal, it is at least widespread.

I'm running a fully upgraded Karmic 64 bit.

My Klipper config settings are: checked the 2, 3rd, 5th and 7th checkboxes, and the second radio button.

I can use either manual or mouse cut & paste to move text between any two applications I've used.

Jaunty 32 bit. My Klipper config settings are now the same as GreyGeek's.
2 Kate files: Open source file - Ctrl+C - Close source file - coppied line is not in Klipper - Open destination file - Ctrl+V - something different coppied.
Without Close source file works.
Time to learn new habits after too many years of old ones or maybe we should look forward to Karmic, thanks anyway.

I was wondering about the same thing a few days ago... and I just about to write "me too", but decided to try it myself once more- and now it works!
Yesterday I got a number of updates, and I think klipper was included. Maybe try the update&upgrade thing.

These four commands solve so many problems that they should be the first tools out of the toolbox when ever a problem arises (AFTER making sure your installation was from an md5sum verified CD.

sudo apt-get -f install (repeat until the rinse water is clear)

sudo apt-get update

suto apt-get upgrade

sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
