    [Solved]Digikam, Amarok dependancy problem

I installed Jaunty 9.04 to test two software packages which are only available in KDE4, Digikam 0.10 and Amarok 2.

Problem is when I try to install Digikam it tells me to remove libgpod-nogtk which if I try remove wants to remove Amarok

Anybody have a resolution to this problem??

I think you are not totally up to date. If you update all your software you will have version of those programs that are compatible.

      Wow - talk about coincidences!

I just tried to install Digikam and got the same message. I have not done all the latest updates though, so I will try to run thos during the night. I really want to test this program. Looks very nice, and as I have bought Lightroom for Windows and have gotten used to it, I need something very nice to organize my pics in Kubuntu.

When I installed from CD I ran the update after the install and installed another 120+ packages, I have just run Update again (10 hours after install) and have installed another 30+ packages. But still cannot install Digikam without having to remove Amarok

Interesting. I am thinking you already have medibuntu in your sources, since you are looking for amarok. If you don't you should add it. I wonder if this is somehow connected to gtk because installing digikam requires removal of libgpod4-nogtk and installation of libgpod4.

If you have medibuntu and installing digikam want to remove amarok you should probably let it continue and then install amarok.

          The versions I have are
          ~ $apt-show-versions amarok
          amarok/jaunty uptodate 2:2.0.2mysql5.1.30-0ubuntu2

          ~ $apt-show-versions digikam
          digikam/jaunty uptodate 2:0.10.0-1ubuntu1

As far as I know, I have done all updates, at least according to KpackageKit. But I still get the same message as well.

              Can you try
              "sudo aptitude install digikam"
and let it remove amarok if it wants to. Then run
              "sudo aptitude install amarok"

                Re: Digikam, Amarok dependancy problem

Well, I am running it now, and it just warned me that libgpod4-nogtk{a} would be removed. Don't know if this is hurting something else. I guess I will find out :-)

I suspect if you look closely it is removing the -nogtk version and installing the one with gtk support.

                    Re: Digikam, Amarok dependancy problem

                    Seems correct. One of the packages that is being installed is libgpod4{a}

                      Re: Digikam, Amarok dependancy problem

Digikam is now installed, and Amarok is still working :-)

I must say, to only be in version 0.10 Digikam is truly an amazing application. I am used to Lightroom, and there are areas where Digikam needs a bit more work, but considering the difference in resources between the two development environments, it is nothing short of a miracle what the team behind Digikam has done!

I think Digikam can actually become one of the killer, must have, applications of Kubuntu/Linux. Some more polishing, and it will draw a lot of new people to Kubuntu!!

Gotta go and post some positive feedback on their website!
                      Regards,

OK I done as you suggested and I also have Digikam installed and still have Amarok installed.

Yet to add the music and picture yet (there on another network at home) but at least I can access the programs so it looks like I am going to have an interesting evening.

                        Thanks
