    Symlinks

I read somewhere here that somebody created symlinks from the folders in /home to the folders in My Documents. As I have a large Data partition, I would prefer to keep all documents, pictures, music and video on one partition so it is available from both OS'es.

How do I create a symlink from Dolphin? And what happens with the folder in /home ? Do I have to delete it first?

I will also try to link Thunderbird in Kubuntu to the datafiles in Thunderbird in Windows XP. from what I have read, it should be possible. By using Foxmarks, I keep all bookmarks in Firefox in sync in both OS'es and even other PC's.

Just drag and drop a file/folder, and from the context menu that pops up, choose 'link here'

If there is a file/folder with the same name as the link to be created, you'll be asked to rename the link to be created (links can also be renamed later)

So let me see if I understand this correctly.

I want a file that is saved to the Documents folder in /home to actually end up in the Documents folder on my Data partition that is ntfs formatted. So... what I do is drag the folder from the Data partition over to the /home partition? And just choose link on the menu that appears.

      Right?

Edit: Tried it, and you can not have a folder with the same name there. You have to delete that folder first. The only option you get if you do not delete it is to rename the new link. But apart from that, yes it works. Thank you for the tip!

I also did a little change to it. In Windows, the picture folder is called My Pictures. In Kubuntu it is only Pictures. So I first made the link to My Pictures. Then deleted the Pictures folder and renamed the link in /home to Pictures. I did the same with several other folders.
