    PulseAudio

I noticed some of us are having issues with PulseAudio. I installed Alpha 6 from the Desktop ISO then upgraded to the latest packages from the command-line. My sound works fine but not PulseAudio so no sound in Flash. I wasn't convinced the problem was configuration so I checked what packages I had installed. The first thing I discovered was the only PulseAudio package installed was the client library. That can't be right, I'm certain we need additional packages, at least the PulseAudio server and probably a few more. I found quite a few PulseAudio packages in the repository. Maybe the Alpha ISO images didn't include these packages by default. Anyone know what packages are required in Kubuntu 9.04 to at least start testing if it works. I have a general idea but I'd rather not guess.

    Re: PulseAudio

A quick follow-up if you are experiencing problems with PulseAudio after installing using the Alpha 6 ISO images. This really doesn't apply if you upgraded a previous install of Ubuntu. I discovered my installation had missing packages. The solution for me was simple, install the PulseAudio sound server (pulseaudio is the package name). It picked up all the dependencies I needed. Reboot then go to System Settings/Multimedia and make sure PulseAudio is first for audio and video. It's working for KDE and Amarok but still no sound in Flash. I gave up on Flash. I tried the plug-in from the repository and the Debian file from Adobe. In all cases the plug-in would lock-up Firefox when testing youtube videos.

      Kubuntu has default pulseaudio?

        Re: PulseAudio

More or less. PulseAudio is available in the Multimedia settings but it didn't work for me until I installed the pulseaudio package from the repository. The Alpha ISO image didn't install the sound server, only the client libraries. It works great after installing the sound server but it didn't play nice with a Vista guest running in VirtualBox when I set the VM to use it.

          Re: PulseAudio

I tried installing all of PulseAudio, but it won't detect my USB soundcard (does not appear in sinks) so it's ultimately useless anyway since I don't have any other soundcards.

I'm using a Steelseries 5H v2 headset USB soundcard btw. All I'm getting from PulseAudio is Null Output.

Anyone got any ideas? It's getting boring only being able to run 1 application with sound.

edit: running sudo apt-get dist-upgrade fixed the problem.
