No more network

After todays update / upgrade and re3boot with:

sudo reboot

(desktop->rightclick leave->reboot does not work)

network (cable) is deactivated.

Any idea how to get it running again?

Did you try running

sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart

A while back when upgrading knetwork manager /etc/iniit.d/networking restart stoped working. After some investigation the contents of my /etc/network/interfaces file has been totally hashed out.

I know this is alpha but I seem to be the only one with this issue and I have never had the network die with any alpha.

ifconfig gives:

Could be drivers arent loaded at boot up. Find out what network card you have and which driver supports it. Then manually modprobe it.

lspci - look for a line that says networking controller or something like that. What I would do is copy paste that line into google, usually you're not the only one having problems if it hardware related.

"dmesg|grep eth" could possibly show something if theres problems loading the driver.

Let's have a look at your /etc/network/interfaces file. If you have a standard network setup/configuration, it should contain only the following two lines:

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
