    Cool'n'quiet (AMD64 x2) problem

    Hey, again!
Another problem with Jaunty, regarded to processor scaling, I think...

The processor is AMD Athlon 64 x2 4200+, but I downloaded a 32 bit version, because of low torrent speeds in 64bit torrent. I installed the OS while mine Cool'n'quiet was turned off, and the OS worked fine, installed fine, everithing was fine exceptfor the VLC installation issue I posted in the software thread. But now I have decided to turn on the cool'n'quiet feature (processor scaling) and I can't boot into Kubuntu Jaunty. It freezes on boot or it restarts in the same time every time. Even tried to reinstall (thought it was broken) but I got the same behavior, it locked the system in the same spot as while booting to installed OS, but now in liveCD feature. Couldn't install it, or run a liveCD session, or boot into existing installation. Then I turned off the cool'n'quiet feature and the existing installation booted just fine, and works just fine I am dualbooting Win7, and it has no issues with this, works whether this feature is on or off, also Ubuntu 8.10 worked fine.
Is there a bug with cool'n'quiet support for AMD?
    I am using Alpha 4.

Has always worked fine for me with 32-bit installs of kubuntu over the years on AMD64... only time I had trouble was when I had forgotten I had hard reset and so it was off in bios... but switching it back on worked perfectly. Perhaps it is a Jaunty issue ***Alpha*** problem.

Off course, im thinking that this is Jackalope exclusive bug, Im just trying to get a confirmation or a possible solution, I installed the OS with default settings and all. Also, if developers are reading these boards they can address this issue.

Sorry. I did not mean to offend. I forgot to check which forum the post was in and my brain was set to "Help the New Guy" mode. Good luck to you getting your problem resolved.

I was not offended in any way, no problems...

Am still waiting some input about this issue, can somebody check this out? Are there reports about similar bugs (if it is a bug)? Is there a workaround, would special install features (like no ACPI etc.) correct this?

Very few developers browse the forums trying to glean bug info. That's why the forums recommend posting bug reports and supply the necessary URL to do that.

I am wondering if, when the "Cool'n Quite" option is turned off, you sense an increase in the CPU temp coming through the keyboard?

There are sensor apps (temp, cpu speed, etc...) in the repository which, when installed, can be used to monitor the hardware and display warnings, take action, etc... Try them out.

C&Q works just fine for me with JJ Beta.

my suggestion is just leave cool and quiet turned off...
unless you really must have your cpu fan slowdown (but as i see it let that thing spin and do its job of cooling your processor).
i have not tried to turn on my cool and quite on either of my amd 64 boxes.
