    viewing linux folders from windows

I am one of the few users of Kubuntu on a mainly windows Intranet. Using Samba I can connect to other computers and enter their shared folders. I can't seem to do the opposite, i.e. allow windows users to view "shared" folders on my computer. How does one share folders or files from Kubuntu?

    with samba.
though you'll have to set up your linux as a samba server and the windoze machines as samba clients.
actually, that's what it was used for at the beginning.
    anyway.
there's a ubuntu community help article on setting up samba.
    hope it helps.

I think I understood how to deal with the Linux "side" of the configuration - thanks jankushka for the link.
As the windows computers are not under "my control" how does the windows user "see" my shared folders.

windoze clients should automatically be able to see your share by browsing the net.
i don't think you need to do anything on the windoze clients.
        that's the whole idea.
windoze domains and user authentication can make things problematic, though.
it should be all in chapter 3. configuring windows clients
you get there via the samba web site.

Check to see if Samba is installed not just Samba-client.

I had a similar problem with 8.10 and found the not all of Samba was installed.

Thanks for the links. It'll take a while for me to try out what I read in the Samba link. I'll report back to this thread when I have results. The main problem will be having the domain "allow" Kubuntu to be "seen" by the other (windows) computers. Trial and error, I guess.
