As long as each has a different xxx then yes, it should be working. By the way, you would not be making yourself vulnerable by telling anyone those addresses. They are internal only network addresses, the internet will not even try to route them. With that setup you should be able to ping the printer from the Kubuntu computer. If you can't there is something else wrong.

Thats what I was thinking.... I also tried to connect Ad Hoc to hpsetup through the VPN after resetting the printers wireless and I can't connect that way either.....

OK, this is what I have found out from the developers at HPLIP, they said that this is a known issue right now and that they are working to correct it.

They also said they had some Alpha script written if I would like to help test.. I'm no programmer and could only tell them whether it works or not so I don't know how much help I could be LOL

You shouldn't need to use an ad hoc connection... have you fired up HPLIP Toolbox yet?

Yes, I have tried with both the printer configuration tool in jaunty and with HPLIP toolbox, I have been in contact with the developers at HPLIP and they emailed me saying that this was a known issue right now and they currently working on getting things straight.

Those guys rock by the way. I was gifted an Epson that I should have just chucked day 1, but instead I struggled with it for about 4 years... got my HP c309a and could not be happier. I will never buy another brand.

Just because you are having trouble with your particular model, please do know that HP does rock!

Oh I am very happy with the performance of the printer itself, I can still use it with the USB, just not the WiFi.... I haven't had th time to really get back with them in depth but will give them th information they need from me this weekend when I have more time though, anything I can do to help (no matter how little that might be LOL) I will gladly do..

You aren't perchance running a firewall, like guarddog or something similar. I had a heck of a time getting my HP6500 wireless printer setup until I disabled the firewall, then had to go through the protocol settings til I got it to work. I have it set up for UDP port 9100.

Re: Having a lot of trouble setting up an HP WiFi printer.

cpthron, my father nearly returned a WiFi HP printer because it seemed to work only after installing it (in Windows) each time they wanted to use it. Otherwise the printer was not reached by the workstation.

I did a little troubleshooting and found that the printer is set up to get its IP address using DHCP. This means that the address can be potentially different each time the printer is turned on, depending on which other devices on your network have been assigned the old IP address, etc. I fixed that configuring the Windows printer "port" using its name instead.

I think that your best strategy is to plug the printer using a network cable, configuring your KUbuntu installation so that the printer is visible and usable and then try to make it work with WiFi.
