Hi,
I used to connect with wifi (both WEP and WPA/TKIP) and DSL without any problem with Knetwork manager under kubuntu 8.04
I the upgraded to 9.04 and I lost my sound (this is another post) and started using Network manager (the widget of plasmoid). Now I can not connect anymore with the WPA/TKIP (but stil with WEP).
I the played a little bit too much and lost even the scan from shell of the available connections, installed wicd that saw the connections intermittently and did not have my encription (WPA/TKIP) too.
I'm wondering reinstalling the software for handling internet connection, what are the suggestions among Knetwork Manager, nm and wicd ? is there any special care in performing the installation?
Thanks in advance.
g.
ps may i say that I'm loosing really a "lot" of time reconfiguring stuff that used to work perfectly in the older version? is this the right price to pay to have nice graphic special effects??

Unfortunately, there's a catch-22 because it requires you to uninstall the existing network manager before it will install. That will leave you without a network manager, and therefore network access, when you're finally able to install WiCD.
The solution to that is to download the .deb before you uninstall the old network manager, or (as I was forced to do) download the .deb to a different machine and copy it over with a thumb drive. The good news is that now I have "connect" and "disconnect" buttons available right up front, as well as "connect..." being immediately available on a right-click on the widget.
