I just burned a copy of the RC today and used the live cd on my toshiba laptop ( A300 21H ) there was a lot of screen flickering ( worse than a normal live cd start up ) anyway eventually got to the desktop and connecton manager asked for my wep key which i gave. No matter what i did it always returned "failed to connect to the network" it see the network name fine and the newtwork is working perfect from other machines.
I am worried will i be able to use Kubuntu online at all? Is it my machine? Should i try Ubuntu?

Yeah, mine does that too. I have to go to System -> System Settings -> Network Settings -> Network Management -> Wireless and edit my connection, at which time it asked me for my Wallet ID. then everything worked.

I finally got tired with that and installed Knetwork Manager:

sudo apt-get install knetworkmanager

I added it to my startup applications:

System -> System Settings -> Advanced -> Autostart -> Add Program ...

and added knetworkmanager

Now when I start up Knetworkmanager takes care of everything without a problem.

Oh yeah, I have an Atheros wireless card on my laptop, and I enabled the proprietary driver for it (when I was prompted), which works fine.

Although network-manager works well on my laptop, it demonstrated the problem you've encountered on my wife's laptop. I removed it and installed wicd. It is not a KDE4 app but it restored connectivity and is easy to setup and use.

wicd and nm-applet from network-manager-gnome both seems to work correctly with network connections besides wired.

I downloaded the daily build for 19 April 2009 and used the "Try Kubunu ... " option on my Laptop. I could not connect to my wireless router even though my 8.10 system did so when I used the same option. I even tried adding all the wireless information, essid and Key to the /etc/netowork/interfaces file. I did this in desperation after I could not get a connection using the System Settings -> Network Management -> Wireless Tab -> Select "wireless connection" and press "Edit". The Apply button never became available after entering all the wireless information.

I have an Asus F3Jr Laptop with wireless 802.11 a/b/g + BT. I have 9.04 working on a wired network connection, bit I will not consider it for my laptop until I can do a wireless connection from the "Try Kubuntu ... " option. With what I have been through with 9.04, I will be interested to see what the reviewers say when they try the final release which is days away.

I consider that the problems are with Kubuntu 9.04 and not my machine!

Thanks for all the feedback, i eventually got a connection ( no idea what i did right, just input my wep key and it works ) it was perfect. I then burned the 64 bit live cd and back to square one again ( wirless connection failed ) then tried the 32 bit again and fails just like before.
Another thing when i ask to shut down my screen flickers from back to a bright flash for like a min then goes to shutdown.
Think ill try the ubuntu one just to give it a go.

Looks like the problem is with 64bit version as that was what I was using for my Laptop. On my other PC it is the 32bit version. Thanks for the news and I hope the solution is found before the official release date.

Don think its just a 64bit problem, just burned the daily 9.04 32 bit kubuntu and, it has a better shutdown ( just works used to stall ) but the same story with the wireless, keeps telling me failed to connect.
I am kinda worried now that Kubuntu will not be fully working for the 23rd. By the way Ubuntu works just perfect!

I installed the new 9.04 and i would say Im a bit disappointed with my lapy's performance.

My config is a IBM T30 with a 2.2 Mhz processor and with a 1.2 Gb ram.
Ive no idea how the system got so slow despite the fact that my kinfo shows a 47% free memory.

Somebody please advise on how to sort this or may be even disable 3d to a standard display option show that it doesnt slow render and also how to improve battery performance.
