Kubuntu 9.04 on DELL PRECISION 690

I recently bought a cancelled-order DELL PRECISION 690 (no OS) that cannot install Kubuntu 9.04 (although Windows XP seems OK). As I am reasonably new to Linux, are there any compatibility issues I need to be aware of - if so, what are the suggestions to correct this? Currently, after the LIVE CD is read and 'install' is selected, there is no apparent DVI output needed to continue the installation (or, indeed, anything!!!).

Details: Precision 690 750W, Intel Xeon 5050 (3GHz), 2GB memory, 2x 300GB Storage (Serial ATA?) with SAS Controller & ATI FireGL graphics.

Thank you in advance for the comments.

I suspect your problem is video related. I imagine this is because to work DVI you need to install the ATI Drivers which you won't be able to install until you at least get the live CD up and running.

Are you able to connect a VGA cable to at least get you to a working desktop from the Live CD (using the try kubuntu option)?

Thank you for the reply - it is much appreciated.

I agree that it is graphic-related, as I have just achieved the "try kubuntu" from the installation Live CD in the low graphics mode (I don't have VGA port!), as per the Dell Dimension 9150 on the ubuntu wiki site*. I then hope to install from there...
