Unable to Install

I have been wanting to convert this PC to an Ubuntu machine for quite awhile.

Today I downloaded Kubuntu 9.04 (Alternate Install)
After detecting my keyboard layout, the installed attempts to mount the CD rom and fails. Nothing works, not even the LiveCD is able to mount the CD rom.

The MD5 Checksums match up and the disk was burned at 4x, and I have tried 3 disk drives from other computers that successfully install Kubuntu fine.

When I use the LiveCD it loads for a little bit, then dumps me into BusyBox initramfs. If I get rid of the quiet argument, it still does not provide an error.

I have tried the following boot args (on Live and Alternate):
noapic acpi=off
all_generic_ide
pci=nomsi
irqpoll
all_generic_ide pci=routeirq
all_generic_ide floppy=off irqpoll pci=nomsi

I am using a Dell Dimension E510

Just for the fun of it, maybe you can try clocksource=hpet as a boot param?

Another thing that comes to mind is playing a bit with the BIOS settings? See if leaving things as simple as possible helps? (maybe disable ACPI in the BIOS for now, etc)

I played with the bios, as well as tried clocksource=hpet

Little more info:
On the livecd, the last line before it dumps me to the BusyBox prompt is:

ice [ USB Keyboard] on usb-0000:00:1d.7-5.4/input1

Is their someway I can dump the output so I can see where any precise errors are occurring?

I am not sure how to make it more verbose than removing quiet, which you already did. About the usb error: do you have any usb peripherals you could disconnect for now? The other thing I would remove is the splash option for bootup, if present ... what a pain!

Now, crazy as this sounds, you may want to try the netbook remix: if it can boot and install, then all you need is to install the kubuntu-desktop and you'll have a kubuntu system.

And a silly question, I assume you are sure you downloaded the 32 bit version of Jaunty, but worth a check ...

The netbook remix requires that I can boot to a USB device, which this dell cannot do sadly.

What are the specs on the PC? Installed RAM, CPU type, video card/graphics chip?

Intel Pentium 4
2GB DDR2 Ram
ATI Radeon X600 SE HyperMemory (Non-integrated, PCI Video Card)

If this helps anyone determine my issue:

The latest version of openSuSe causes the same error.
