I have installed 9.04 on a pendrive and although it bootsup ok the first screen appears aking for a user name and password. How can I access the desktop and use Linux?

Thats the problem-no user name or password has been set. The request is the very first thing to come up after boot -No user name or password was asked for on installation. This request appeared on the initial bootComment

I don't think the installer would let you go though without at least one user account. Anyways, you can boot in Rescue Mode, choose the option to use a root shell, and from there create a new user account, using this:

After creating the user, you can do [ctrl][d] to go back to the menu and then resume boot up (or restart the computer). The new user and password should let you login ...Comment

That didnt work so I reinstalled and all is now OK. Thanks for the help. Perhaps Control+D would have worked?Comment
