    upgrade from 8.04 to 9.04 kde3.5 remix

I have just upgraded to 9.04 from 8.04, im still not set on kde4 though 4.3 is looking a lot better (though uses too many resources for my old laptop!!) so I have been waiting to upgrade after redaing about the remix I though it was the best of both world. So I went for it, how ever after under going the whole experience I have kde4 fine but when installing kde3.5 I get this :
    Errors were encountered while processing:
    kdebase-kde3
    kde-guidance-powermanager-kde3
    kde-guidance-kde3
    kdebase-runtime-data-common-kde3
    ksmserver-kde3
    konqueror-kde3
    konq-plugins-kde3
    konqueror-nsplugins-kde3
    kmplayer-konq-plugins-kde3
Ive tried running aptitude Ive tried sudo apt-get -f install, Ive even tried sudo dpkg --configure -a and nothing works!!!! Iam in kde3.5 now but it looks really old I only have plastic window decoration!
It all feels a bit like I have gone back in time a bit!
can any one help me work out how to finish the install and why my kde3 seems to have gone back in time
    thanks

    and got

But you didn't read that here ....

Honestly, I think there are good reasons why your Ubuntu Forums post languished unanswered -- the error output in your post shows them. I have not see any report of successful installation of KDE 3.5 on a Kubuntu 9.04 system on this forum. Maybe someone will speak up and surprise us ...

Depending on the speed and capacity of your old laptop, Kubuntu 9.04/KDE4 may indeed be asking too much of it. I have a little Eee PC 701, and I installed an Xfce system on it, and I like it just fine that way, even though I run KDE 4 on my desktop. You might want to take a look at Xubuntu for the lappy -- just a suggestion. Or if you're dead set on KDE 3.5, I think slax still comes with a very lightweight KDE 3.5 desktop.

If you want KDE 3.5.x, you will have to revert to an earlier version of Kubuntu that came with KDE 3.5. The problem is, KDE 3.5 is not being supported by Canonical - it's efforts are with KDE 4.

No, I think it won't install properly because it is wayyyy incompatible with some of the KDE4 system files, as indicated by the errors that it is spewing.

          Right!

As Snowhog says, no one -- not Canonical, not KDE -- is developing or supporting KDE 3.5 today. So, if you want a KDE 3.5 desktop, then you'll need to install one of the earlier Kubuntu versions -- 8.04 or earlier, or else install something like slax that is currently offered with KDE 3.5.

this is odd because I have 9.04 with kde4.3 installed on another partition, and its works fine, slowly but fine as far as apt is concerned! im able to update and install as normal

well everything is working fine and dandy now except that I have to start knetworkmanager from the command line which is anoying but not the end of the world!
any on know how to get it to start when kde3 loads?

Well, it worked for me- kinda ;-) I installed it on my old, slow laptop, following https://wiki.kubuntu.org/Kubuntu/Kde3/Jaunty
The results were mixed- it booted alright and you could work with it (knetworkmanager worked, as well). However, it was still slower than 8.04 and had some annoying quirks. Used more power, too. The only thing that seemed to have gotten better was that I could now rotate pdf files So, after two days I wiped it and did a clean install of 8.04.
I think Ubuntu/Kubuntu have become too slow on old hardware in the new releases and I will check out Xubuntu/Arch in the future.

For 9.04 with KDE 3.5, It is better to ask the author for help.
