jaunty boot hangs at laoding hardware drivers

booting jaunty takes forever. although hardy and gutsy were the same. I do alot of installs for others and don't have this problem with their machines. It seem that only my box takes a seriously long time at "loading hardware drivers". Ive tried booting up with no peripherals plugged in to see if maybe it was a USB HDD or printer but such is not the case. It would be nice to know where to look to find out which piece of hardware is stalling the boot process.
    Thanks
I tried Enlightenment once, it was pretty cool.

You've removed the 'splash' and 'quiet' kernel options from the menu.lst entry you are booting from, so you can see (in all its glory) the messages? If you haven't, that will allow you to see where the process is hanging.
