Installing 9.04 amd64 halts asking for the install disk.

I have tried installing kubuntu 9.04 amd64 alternative on my desktop.
    The installation halts asking:

    "
Please insert the disc labeled: 'Kubuntu 9.04_Jaunty Jackalope_ - Release amd64 (20090420.1) in the drive '/cdrom/'
    "

The installer just doesn't accept enter in either <Continue> or <Go Back>.
Switching to terminal I can see that the disc in question is mounted where it should ('/cdrom/').

I doubt the problem is with the cd, because:
    1. the md5sum of the iso I downloaded is correct,
    2. I burned several (3) discs with burnspeed 4x. And they all stop at the same spot.
    3. The check disc for defects doesn't give error.

I attached the syslog of the install.

    Any ideas?

may sound silly but how about booting from a pendrive? Unetbootin makes it a breeze to create the bootable pendrive ...
