Re: Installation stops at keyboard layout choice.

Hello, I am having the same exact issue here on my pc. It's an AMD64 x2 +6000, with a two partition HD (windows and ubuntu studio). I am trying to install over the ubuntu studio distro.

I have tried to test the cd, and it comes out without any errors. I'm currently at work, so I cant try burning another cd at 4x dao yet.

I just wanted to see if anyone else has successfully gotten past this point if they had the issue, and what they did.

      Thanks./

I tried burning at 4x and it worked for me. It took a minute to bring up the disk partitioner, but it worked.

Alright I have it installed, thanks for the help so far but now I have another problem.

On the first boot when it says its loading files for boot etc.. when asked for a username and password for the computer I type in the username but when it comes to the password the keyboard except for the enter key is unresponsive. Any help?

            Thanks so far anyway

this is _really_ weird. You can reboot in Recovery Mode, drop to a Root Shell with network, and type "sudo apt-get install gdm". Say yes, and select GDM as the login manager. And see if you can login with that other login manager. HTH!

Ah My apologies I did not realise it did register the keystrokes but it made no change to the display. Now I'm past the login its just a page about ubuntu on a DOS style screen it does not appear to be loading.

can you take a picture with a digital camera and post it as an attachment? I have no idea what you are seeing

Assuming the DOS style screen is just the linux command line- it sounds like it never got to KDE. run 'startx' and it will start up the gui, or it will return an error of some kind. You may have to edit your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file to get in depending on how it turns out.

Re: Installation stops at keyboard layout choice.

Sorry I can't get a picture up, can't find the camera. Its a black screen, like DOS, after asks me for password/username theres alot of text and at the bottom is the Command line for ubuntu.

Startx just results in the login screen with a black box with a HDD logo, then it just freezes

EDIT: After a while it does load up the GUI but its very slow loading, then i get a box saying The Process for the desktop protocol died unexpectedly

You should start a new thread for that.

One last question; If I want to boot from a disc how do I get it to do that?

Nevermind, I didn't realise it wasn't an OS specific thing its just BIOS. Thanks for the help
