    alt-ctrl-delete and ctrl:nocaps in kde3 remix

I've almost got this pair of laptops working, but some pieces seem to be missing in the kde3 remix.

In particular, system>preferences seems not to exist, unless I'm missing something glaring. Everything I see on how to get rid of the nightmare known as capslock in jaunty refers to this panel.

I've found the keyboard settings in the KDE Control Cdenter, but all it offers is repeat, numlock, and click volume.

I've tried adding the control blocks for InputDevice and Serverlayot to set XkbOptions in xorg.conf, but this is apparently ignored.

Setting option DontZap to false seems to work, but I note that thre are already three backup files of xorg.conf that the system is generated in the last two days. Kubuntu seems a bit, ahh, promiscuous in rewriting this file; will it even be saved?

    thanks
