[SOLVED] 4.2.3 released, how long does it usually take to get it out in Kubuntu

KDE 4.2.3 got released yesterday and I am wondering how long it usually takes to get it into the Kubuntu system.

There are some bugfixes in there that I really would like to get... Especially the one that fixes the multiple e-mail problem in the addressbook.

    Uneducated Guess

Probably soon. The JJ is now a released final so there is a short test phase before the packages are added to the normal repositories. Now the KDE 4.2.3 packages can be found > PPA for Kubuntu Most Experimental Packages:
    Description

Low quality and therefore dangerous packages, which are trials of prealpha software which might be included in the Ubuntu archives at some point.

    About Kubuntu PPA's

    > Discussing an "Official" Kubuntu PPA scheme
    ...
Currently, the unofficial scheme we have for using these PPAs is:
    - Use kubuntu-members-kde4 for pushing backported versions of new stable
    KDE/KDE-related software releases
    - Use kubuntu-experimental to publish backported alpha/beta versions of KDE
software found in the development release of Kubuntu
    - Use kubuntu-ninjas to stage all KDE/KDE-related software releases
    ...
Kubuntu-members has been seemingly abandoned, probably since everything is
KDE4 now. Kubuntu-updates-testing has been abandoned too...

Thanks. I am hoping for real soon :-)

Just wondered about the pre-alpha part of the warning - is a release version of KDE considered pre-alpha Kubuntu?

To install it add this line to your software sources.

            deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main

Then refresh and do a full upgrade.
... and that PPA ( > Kubuntu Updates) is telling:

Hope this is not too redundant a question, but where is the gpg key?

                Edit--
OK, I figured it out from a previous post.

                Code:
When you add the repository, it will give an error message NOPUBKEY ####

                gpg --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv ####
                gpg --export --armor #### | sudo apt-key add -
And an even easier way from the link in the next post:
                Code:
                sudo apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com ####

Just upgraded and the addressbook annoyance is gone. Feel like dancing! I now have my 1600+ addresses imported and things just WORK! And the sun is shining too - a good day indeed!

the proper way to open kate (or any GUI app) with sudo privileges is to use kdesudo in place of sudo:
                        Code:
                        kdesudo kate

I have used a short version, kdesu, instead of kdesudo. It has worked fine for me at least :-) But probably safer to use kdesudo?

                            KDE Sudo

KDE Sudo (kdesudo) is a graphical front end for sudo. This command/application is used when launching windowed applications with Root access. With Tribe 5, KDE Sudo replaces KDE Su (kdesu). The added benefit is that your password will be remembered for up to 15 minutes, or whatever you set sudo too.
With the JJ the kdesu is a link to the kdesudo:
                            Code:
                            ls -l /usr/lib/kde4/libexec/kdesu
                            lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 20 2009-04-24 19:40 /usr/lib/kde4/libexec/kdesu -> ../../../bin/kdesudo

well here on my jaunty and intrepid kdesu does not work in a terminal, as it is not on any normal $PATH, but does work with Krunner (alt-f2) I just found, so I stand slightly corrected
