error: the backend took too much time to process the synchronous request...

i recently fought through a three-day upgrade to jaunty (with the help of mando_hacker, without whom i would have likely had to reinstall), and now i'm getting a lot of bug-fix and security updates through KDE Control Module. whenever i allow it to do it's "thing", it inevitably ends up putting an error message on my screen that says

    Code:
A problem that we were not expecting has occurred. Please report this bug with the error description.

The backend took too much time to process the synchronous request - you need to fork!
what does this mean? to whom do i report the bug? how does one "fork"? do i actually have the bug-fixes and security updates, or does this error mean that nothing got installed? and if nothing got installed, how do i get the bug-fixes and security updates?

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I ran into this error myself today, and I wanted to ensure there was a solution available.

I solved the issue, by opening a "konsole" window, and running "sudo aptitude update".

After that Kpackagekit started working immediately started showing updates. Still buggered though.
