After a lot of fiddling around I have finally gotten the Jaunty upgrade working with the KDE 3.5 remix,and also got my wireless working so that I'm online again. But my system seems to be missing a lot of pieces, and I don't even know what they all are or in what packages they reside. I tried the magic incantation apt-get -f install, but it found nothing to install (and didn't complain). I also tried a Synaptic upgrade and it found nothing to upgrade. Here are some of the symptoms of what's missing:
1. The clock is in the wrong time zone. I can fix it via the time applet, but it reverts to the wrong zone again after a reboot.
2. Sound seems to be half-alive but it only gives me a low-volume buzzing. When I go to the sound settings in kcontrol and try to get the test sound, I hear that buzzing again but get no complaints.
3. There doesn't seem to be anything around for adjusting the power settings so that the action of closing the laptop lid does nothing.
4. On logging in, I don't see the usual set of logos as the system is starting.
My sense is that there's a common cause for all of these problems, and that if I could only find the right collection of packages to reload, the problems would go away. Here is the tail end of /etc/apt/sources.list, which includes the lines recommended by Pearson:
