    Jaunty ready for prime-time?

I feel quite angry at this new release. My system was working just fine and I got the notification of an upgrade, so I took it. Next time I will do an image of my system prior to any upgrades.

The user interface is non-intuitive, programs I had installed seem to have gone bye-bye, and my wireless networking stopped working (and the wireless interface is nearly useless). I'd like to un-upgrade, but I'm guessing that isn't possible. I've tried various suggestions in the forum for getting wireless working or switching to wicd, and even tried to get the KDE 3.5 desktop back. No luck. So my plan now is to save off the files I customized, if they still exist, and reinstall the previous version from scratch. It almost feels like they are taking the MS approach of "well it's pretty, so just release it and let the users figure out how to fix it."

How is it that you've tried to get KDE 3.5 back? Howabout https://wiki.kubuntu.org/Kubuntu/Kde3/Jaunty ? The actual site is http://apt.pearsoncomputing.net/, it's basically the semi-official "KDE 3.5 for Kubuntu 9.04" remix. And if you're planning on installing from scratch anyways, you might as well try out the Live CD images. In theory then you get the underpinnings of 9.04 but the stable and feature-complete KDE 3.5.10 environment.

KDE 3.5 is here to stay for the foreseeable future, it's just not entirely publicly known (and a lot of the KDE and Kubuntu devs seem to be somewhat vehemently against it, but I'm betting they haven't been unlucky enough to be having the kinds of problems that you and I and others have had).
