I cannot access my hotmail account; the page freezes; both on live cd and on installed OS.
When klipper is first used on starting the comp there is some peculiar partial comments which requires that one clears klipper before using.
I changed the screen resolution from (native) 1920x1200 to 1440x900. When the comp is restarted it is back to the native resolution. Just going to systems>display and just clickng on the display icon changes it to 1440x900. every tme.
BBC News video. no go. am told that i have the wrong flash version
The help button on Kpackagekit is greyed out.
which of the synaptic packages do i need to download.

About Flash, as you can read in other postings here it is probably beneficial to uninstall all things associated with Adobe Flash and then reinstall the plug in and Adobe Flash.

About KPAckageKit, it works.
And is fairly useless, it displays a confusing message about installing/deinstalling the selected packages.
And has no options like reinstall or purge.

So do from a terminal

sudo apt-get install adept

or,

sudo apt-get install synaptic.

Or maybe both

when I enter your command in a terminal I get:
bash: sudu: command not found

so I changed to "su apt-get install adept"
and get:

Unknown id: apt-get

so i try
kdesu apt-get install adept
and get:
kdesu: command not found

It is a useragent issue:
In the firefox address bar, enter in:
Code:

about:config

Click the "I'll be careful, I promise!" button.
Navigate to general.useragent.vendor
and change it's value from Ubuntu to Firefox.
Quit firefox, then try hotmail. There's a chance I may have this wrong, possibly a lowercase f in firefox is needed to be used if this does not work.

-- I believe I needed to do that, but it has been a while. Give it a try.

Found my original post from a while back... I had just deleted the particular user agent string instead of replacing it as above...

One of my problems is that I do not have firefox and the adept listing gives so many choices that I am lost.
I clicked the help button but it said there was no help!
If you could suggest which of the firefox selections that I should download it would be a big help.

senorian, I can't believe the sudo command is not available on your system!


I can understand the su etc. you tried did not work, su sees apt-get as the user :P

What used to be kdesu has a while ago been changed to kdesudo.

Seems like you could try that last one but I advise against it as this means whatever you install is likely to get kde instead of root rights.

The fact the help on KPackageKit is not available means nothing, the application is so new and immature that the help pages aren't ready anyway.

You write Adept is working, select firefox-3.0 because it's the current release.

And more importantly, see if sudo and aptitude are installed as they are rather important commands!
The missing (or bad configuration) of them are likely reasons for many problems.

Once you have firefox up and running you might want to get the user agent switcher add-on.

The sudo command is available. I typed it as "sudu"
sorry to have mislead you.
Also aptitude is present
Am now reading up on "aptitude"
