    Remote helpdesk

In Windows, I am using a program called Remote Helpdesk. It has a bit more features than VNC and has been a great tool for me.

But now I am facing a new challenge. I have friends that want Kubuntu installed and they will need help.

So I am wondering what my options are.

I know about VNC and I guess there is a way to just connect remotely with a VNC client.

BUT - I have an additional need here. We are both behind routers with NAT, and none of us can control the routers at the moment (the ISP owns and operates them in this area of Brazil... > ). So is there a way to connect with some kind of "middle man" to be able to give them help when they need it? This could be a great project to add to KDE and a great "sales argument" - "If you use Kubuntu, I will be able to help you when you need, even if you are half way around the earth".

It could be an addon to Kopete so you can initiate a remote session through the contact there. Of course using Jabber as the "middle man"...

    Any other ideas?

Had a little communication from UbuntuOne and the answer was that this scenario is one of the things they have been considering.

So I am hopeful for what the future holds!

Krdc requires one computer to act as server. How he supposed to connect remotely without a port exposed on the router? He can't configure the router to forward a port, if I understand correctly.

OP, if you can find an external server to connect to then your problem of not having access to the router is solved. Just have the third computer act as a proxy for the one you want to VPN into. Make sense? I don't know what protocol or service is appropriate in this situation, so keep researching.

I know that doesn't solve your problem, but maybe it gives you some ideas? I hope you succeed.

          Thx.

Seems like UbuntuOne is aiming at becoming a type of proxy for this if I understood the correct.

The really cool thing would be if you could start a chat with someone and then He/she could invite you to do a remote help session by clicking a button in the chat window. THAT would be easy and userfriendly
