Kubuntu and ubuntu 32 -9.04 desktop installers fail with Grub error

    Hi
both Kubuntu and ubuntu 32 bit jaunty desktop isos were wasted downloads as both gave grub errors after install on my machine, even after repartitioning the drive with pmagic.
The alternate ubuntu 32 install ncurses install worked however and I installed kubuntu-desktop 4.2.1.
Still prefer kde 3.x so far, bits missing still in kde4.x, time will tell--

Perhaps my sata dvd rom confused the desktop isos, they sure did not work for me!
No other Kubuntu releases complained previously including Hardy and Ibex in the past on this AMD 64 dual processor machine with Nvidia, as the machine is 32 bit compatible also.

No offense ElZorro, but your post is useless for troubleshooting or for informing others or even for curiosity seekers, but it probably felt good to you to post it.

"... as both gave grub errors after install on my machine, even after repartitioning the drive with pmagic."

In the future, tell us, even briefly if you wish, what you did and saw; like rebooted, then this, then that, and then GRUB error # X, etc.

    Thanks.

"Wasted a download"? That might be the case IF you didn't confirm the md5sum on the iso after you downloaded it, OR you didn't notice if the burn of the iso conclude with a "Success!" message, OR, you burned your iso at too fast a speed. Burning audio and video discs at 24x is one thing but data cds are better burned at 10x or less. You get fewer coasters that was.

I downloaded the Jaunty beta yesterday and installed it on two laptops a friend of mine brought over for the purpose. One was a Gateway m675prr and the other was an HP dv5-1159se. Jaunty slid on to both of them like a silk glove. I immediately ran the updates (nearly 100 files) and rebooted. On the Gateway the broadcom 4306 wireless wasn't detected, so I plugged in a short length of cat5 cable from my wireless router to the Gateway, and downloaded the bw43xx wadcutter, which generated driver software from the broadcom firmware. When I reconfigured the wireless the broadcom was detected and installed easily. The rest, 3D accerated video, sound, usb... everything worked perfectly. The HP was a 64 bit laptop and I used the 64bit Jaunty beta on it. When the KDE4 desktop came up everyting was working perfectly. Sound, video, wireless, etc....

Two excellent installs from two different versions of Jaunty beta.

Whoa -- of course they both gave grub errors -- they're the same Linux OS, with different desktop environments! So they're consistent. Better take a peek at FAQ #3 on my signature link.

P.S. Installed 9.04 Beta on Friday on my desktop rig, with 3 hard drives and another Linux OS already installed. No issues at all, other than figuring out my 10 partitions and getting them all mounted correctly.
