    New splash/unsplash

Anyone notice the new splash/unsplash? It looks nice and simplistic, kudos to the artwork team.

Yes How do they think I will explain to my friends that my kubuntu has shrunk...was it the cold snap?

First thoughts were ..I have knackered the pc...( I usually assume that)

Second thoughts were ..looks very good

It _IS_ kinda small but it's slick! This sucker sure is running good for where it's at in the roadmap.

          Re: New splash/unsplash

          The new usplash is smaller.

          Old background pictures:

          usplash_640_400.png
          usplash_640_480.png
          usplash_800_600.png
          usplash_1024_768.png
          usplash_1365_768.png

          New (kubuntu-default-settings-9.04.21) background pictures:

          usplash_300_200.png
          usplash_400_300.png
          usplash_600_500.png

and same with the throbber bar

          old:

          throbber_fore_16.png; 216x8 pixels
          throbber_fore.png; 320x18 pixels

          new:

          throbber_fore_16.png; 244x3 pixels
          throbber_fore_32.png; 420x4 pixels
          throbber_fore.png; 308x3 pixels

          But the old only had: usplash_theme_640_480, usplash_theme_800_600, usplash_theme_1024_768, usplash_theme_1365_768_scaled (ratio 16:9).

          The new has: usplash_theme_640_480, usplash_theme_800_500, usplash_theme_800_600, usplash_theme_896_672, usplash_theme_1024_576, usplash_theme_1024_600, usplash_theme_1024_640, usplash_theme_1024_768, usplash_theme_1152_720, usplash_theme_1280_800, usplash_theme_1280_1024, usplash_theme_1440_900, usplash_theme_1600_1200, usplash_theme_1920_1200.

So now there are also 16:10. That is: If your harware supports .

              Re: New splash/unsplash

I downloaded all the upgrades that has happened since alpha6 over night and noticed that the progress bar suddenly has become a lot smaller. As the former one looked a bit soft, I always assumed that it had been scaled up.

My laptop display is 1280x800 and I would simply LOVE to have the boot up sequence bigger and in correct resolution, not a scaled up version. I think there should be a possibility to download a higher rez if you wanted that.

With that said, I am also looking into how to create some killer desktop wallpapers myself. Would be nice to have a couple of my own creations there. Any way to have Kubuntu randomly choose the background?

                Usplash configuration file: /etc/usplash.conf.

                Press Alt+F2 and type:
                Code:
                kdesudo kate /etc/usplash.conf
                Here:
                # Usplash configuration file
                # These parameters will only apply after running update-initramfs.
                xres=1680
                yres=1050
It is a text file so you can edit it by using a text editor. Afterwards you need to run
                Code:
                sudo update-initramfs -u
                or
                Code:
                sudo dpkg-reconfigure usplash

Right click desktop > Appearance Settings > Wallpaper: Type:Slideshow...

                There is also plasma-widget-nextwallpaper
plasmoid that changes the current wallpaper
It is in the Repositories. KDE-Look > Next wallpaper

More: K-menu (Alt+F1) > Applications > Help: KDE Users' Manual (12. Customizing the Appearance of your KDE Desktop)

Fast lane: Alt+F2 and type "khelpcenter"
