    Fresh insrtall of JJ Alpha-6

Just tried a fresh install of JJ Alpha-6 (AMD-64 alt install), after a login all I get is a spotty desktop with no task-bar or menu?
I can alt-F2 and run a command, but everything I have tried crashes, asks if I want to report it to the developers, gathers information, then says it can't because one or more packages are out of date .

Machine is AMD 64 4400, NF-95 Motherboard using Nvidia RAID (RAID 0, which is what I wanted to test).
The desktop looks like it's in a very low resolution (big mouse cursor), so I'm guessing it's a screen resolution/driver problem.

Any suggestions? or has my PC just caught terminal Acne :P.

If you are using the Alpha-6 CD (?). It is now a week old and there has been many updates (about 100M per day at here). It would be better to use the "Daily builds" > Kubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty Jackalope) Daily Build

Have you tried to upgrade ?

    =>

    Something to try:

Alt+F2 and then type konsole. At the konsole:
    Code:
    sudo apt-get update
    and
    Code:
    sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
Log out and log in, any help ?

If no, maybe this: Log out and when you are in the login screen - don't login - press: Ctrl + Alt + F1.
This should start the virtual console.

Login in the text mode. After you are in, rename your existing kde folder:
    Code:
    mv /home/<user>/.kde /home/<user>/kdebackup
(you could also remove it: rm /home/<user>/.kde)

Press: Ctrl + Alt + F7. Now you should be in the graphical login screen. Login and KDE should build new Kubuntu/KDE desktop with the default settings.

    Maybe > https://wiki.kubuntu.org/X/Troubleshooting/HugeFonts helps ?
    Before you edit, BACKUP !

Why there are dead links ?

      Thanks for that Rog131,
The apt-install update installed a LOT, then apt-install dist-upgrade install even more... it didn't fix the screen resolution but did give me a task-bar/menu and enough functionality to get the Nvidia screen driver installed (on the third attempt!).
