Apologies to the original poster for hijacking your thread to make my point. If it's any consolation my post has bumped your thread and issue.
hi
same problem here. but with a hp pavilion dv6000
(i think that in the login the resolution is 600x480 or 800x600, i'm not sure)
in my case the problem continues after getting everything loaded on the desktop --->
then the resolution changes to 1024x768 (?!! ) but not maximized either.
i tried with "screen resize & rotate" but that's the maximum.
i tried to change to the configuration in the login screen, but it saids it is 1024x768.
i looked around trying to find where to change the driver &/or the monitor's configuration (like "kdesu kcontrol" or something) but couldn't find it.
(sorry, i don't have any idea to help, just to say that happens to me too and what didn't work for me )
(not trying to hijacking)
I think you will find this is a problem with X. It depends on your hardware, display adapter and monitor. you will probably find some clues in /var/log/Xorg.0.log. You can also find your display adapter by lspci. I think it is an Intel GMA950 and probably has a proprietary driver from Intel. Are you using the xserver-xorg-video-intel now?
It can be for any of you who want to get your video to fill the monitor.
Look for lines that are something like
discarding modeline 1400x900 ...
I expect that all the modelines you want are being discarded because it does not think your hardware can handle them. This is most likely an error in detecting the capabilities of your monitor since you seem to have a correct display driver.
If this package xserver-xorg-video-i740 is installed on your system as well as xserver-xorg-video-intel it might actually be getting loaded and giving you trouble. Removing it might help.
The following packages will be REMOVED:
xserver-xorg-video-all xserver-xorg-video-i740
is that right?
(i am trying to get any sense from the log, but it looks too much for me. i can't find any "discarding modeline")
(& i am sorry but i don't remember the native resolution of my monitor, i make a gl4it and find this:
Display
* Display Type 15.4 in TFT active matrix
* Max Resolution 1280 x 800
but i don't know if that's right, maybe that's from the new pavilion?)
it's so cool!! it looks so much better than before the upgrade to jaunty!
(a little slow, maybe a should stop some candy effects)
anyway amazing the resolution, i don't think it was good even when i got the laptop with the windows inside!!
i love jaunty!
(& a little of my love for mando_hacker!!)
