    Screen Goes Black

Kubuntu 9.04 has been nothing but a problem for me. It will run flawless for about 3 days and then out of the blue it seems like the monitor gets shut off. I can hear my fan running and the hard drive making noise here and there but the screen don't work. This is my 4th or 5th install now and I've had no luck fixing it.

Desktop effects have been turned off on default and when using the drivers the driver manager says to use.
I've changed from open gl to xrendering

At this point I'm at a loss and ready to move to another distro. I've never had problems like this before and don't know what to do.

I have a Gateway MT3419 laptop AMD 64 processor. GeForce Go 6100 video card.

Has anyone found a solution to this ? I've seen other posts as well and tried some things but I'm stuck.

At the moment I'm typing this using Knoppix Live CD to once again save all my data

    Thanks!

Are you using the default video driver or NVidia's proprietary one? (The latter should show up as an option under System / Hardware Drivers.)

      Re: Screen Goes Black

I tried both of them. I'm thinking of testing the early Nvidia drivers instead of the recommend version 180.
Shorty after this post I installed KDE3 so I don't have to redo the system, and to keep trying to suggestions as the come. KDE3 has been running strong with no problems as I have on KDE4

      Thanks
