    Phillips SPC230NC webcam

I am trying to get my daughters webcam working and after searching the forums for help stiil can not get a picture.
I have a red light on the camera it self but when I open cheese webcam booth it tells me no camera found.

I typed webcam into BASh and got:

    reading config file: /home/amber/.webcamrc
v4l2: open /dev/video0: No such file or directory
v4l2: open /dev/video0: No such file or directory
v4l: open /dev/video0: No such file or directory
    no grabber device available

I have v4l installed (v4l2 doesn't come up when I search synaptic) I think this may have something to do with the problem.

    Thanks

    Ashley

Did you look up the video chip here:

    http://mxhaard.free.fr/spca5xx.html

    lspci will show it.

      No I didn't. Didn't know about, sorry.

Meh, I meant lsusb -- getting senile here, sorry.

Try lsusb and see if it shows the camera and bus ID.

thought the results didn't make sense anyway, this is what I got back:

Bus 001 Device 004: ID 04f2:0402 Chicony Electronics Co., Ltd

            So it's this:

            ID 093a:262c Pixart Imaging, Inc.

I don't see that ID on the Pixart list at mxhaard. I think that means that the gspca driver doesn't support it.

I'm not sure what your options are here -- that camera may not work with Linux at all.
