Internal Modems?

Hi All,

Not to ask too stupid a question, but I have always used external modems with Linux. Would an internal modem install as an additional serial port? And, how do I figure out which port it is on? Is there a GUI for kind of thing?

Don't think so. An external modem connects via the serial port using an RSC232 cable. The phone line connects to the modem and the telephone connects to the modem, so you can use the line when you are not using the modem. An internal modem would require a "phone line" port and a "phone" port.
PCI Modem cards that plug into a slot in a desktop has those two ports.
I've never seen a laptop that had a "phone line" and "phone". Have you?

No. But this is a desktop.

Once I have fired up Kubuntu. How do I check and configure my modem? Is there some utility for that?
