Laptop mouse pad problems -- any help appreciated!

I have an annoying problem on my laptop (see specs below). Basically, if I try to move the mouse across the screen, sometimes it thinks I am clicking on something, so I end up clicking links when I am not trying to. something appears to be set too sensitive. I am not sure what to change, or where to start. I am not even sure what type of mouse pad I have...any help would be appreciated!

Have you tried System Settings -> Keyboard and Mouse -> Mouse -> Advanced?

Maybe start choosing defaults and see if it helps, and then customize a bit ...

Yeah, I looked there...just don't see anything that looks like what I need.

under mouse settings -> advanced, u may want to reduce the acceleration, threshold, etc. go for lower settings first and then work upto something comfortable.

the next thing to look for will be /etc/X11/xorg.conf file , under one of the sections as per yr mouse / touchpad.
