How to operate two soundcards?

Hello! Maybe this is the wrong board to post... please let me know then.
Right now my computer is down but when it was working I wanted to use both the integrated sound o the mobo and my delta 66 every now and then. Delta for music, listening and composing, integrated for movies since delta doesn't support 5.1 Never really managed to fix it. How is it done easy? Is Gnome or XFCE easier than KDE?

I think you can select this in System Settings, Multimedia, you would give different priority to one card for audio. and the other one for video. What I am not sure is what will happen if you use a non-kde video application, how is it going to know whatever you chose in the KDE control center? The only way would be if it used phonon for audio. Oh well, I am not sure I fully answered but this may guide you a bit in your search ...
