There are probably quite a few possibilities, but let's try the simplest first! Click on the little speaker icon down at the bottom-right of your screen, in the bar. then click 'mixer'.
In the 'settings' menu choose 'configure channels' and tick th ebox mext to all the different types of microphone (mic), to see them all, then press okay. This will show volume control sliders for various microphones on the mixer panel. Are any of them down at zero? If so, slide them up and see if that solves your problem
