Oh maaan, this waiting is eating me...

Take a look at my Mojo at the moment.
    http://www.aijaa.com/v.php?i=4574297.jpg
Such a sad sight, isn't it. They sold seemingly the last 600W PSU in the country right from in front of my nose, and now I'm hoping to get it changed to replacement one, more available unit.

Gotta go make some pizza for the family. Let's keep waiting.

    Cheers, tafi

edit; WOW! I finally made it to page 2 and a hot topic! WOW. Clearly made my day.

      My Mojo is OK!

I finally got the new PSU, Be Quiet 650W SATA loaded! Compared to old not-so-very-trusty-350W Nexus ( size DOES matter ) the go*dam "SIGSEGV#11'S" HAVE DISAPPEARED! I'll stop shouting, but I'm such a happy camper! Maybe I have to stop drinking Red Wine as well, it's Two, Minutes, to Midnight (Iron Maiden, in the 80's). But it's Saturday, and I'm spending Summer Vacation...

Since 24HRS ago, the thing has been w/o the notorious error, except for Envyng, which does it EVERY TIME I (sorry) close it w/o actitivity. I think that just concludes the verdict, my mojo is so very many OK.

I upgraded the Display Card to 8500GT and also installed a second fan to the system , the water cooler fan on top of the tank, where my cooler lies. Now I cannot get the CPU (sorry) temp up from 35C

Thanks Folks, I think that's it, and CHEERS (sorry). Keep up the good work!

Folks, I'm thinking about un-solving this thread. Couple of minutes when my HDD Smartmontools -long test is done and that's it...Yes, my HDD is perfectly OK. Sigh, I still don't seem to get out of this SIGSEGV thing. Gimp, browsers, Dolphin, KTorrent, Plasma, nspluginviewer, all crash from time to time with that error. (way too often). Upgrading the PSU did not help a thing! It's getting very annoying. >
          A week ago I did a clean install once more, this time with a v e r y s l o w l y burned (8x) CD. No help.

Back to square one. Please help me out here.

I think it's your memory. Run memtest86 overnight.

I'll do that. But keeping in mind, that previous memtest run did not find any errors.

I ran 14hrs for the memtest86+ and it found 50 errors. It was not finished at the time. All errors were within 250Mb-480Mb. The first four errors came within 50minutes from the start.

So, I took out the DDR1 mem module, and I thought I cracked the WHOLE problem when finding a dust ball from its contacts! I took it off and cleaned the contacts with alcohol, and put the DDR back in.

Still, it did not help. Again, the first four errors came within 50minutes from the start. Let's see does it find all the 50 odd errors.

Yeah, 64 78 errors in 25hrs, all under 1Gb which is my two months old DDR1 1Gb Kingston. What should I do? I've tested all possible memory combinations with four combs. All said "SIGSEGV#11".

Sigh, I think I'm going to buy a new (used) MoBo. ASUS A8N-E in sight. I think that's the same I broke in last winter. This here AsRock, I'm using now, has no reputation of supporting Linux. Strange, but that's the way it is. It has M$ written all over it. I remember old collaque of mine buying a laptop once, and after two weeks returning it back to the shop with same words, *It does not support Linux, it has M$ written all over it*.

Upgrading to AM2(+), DDR2 and SATA only, would mean my PSU would be the only old part in the tank, and that would be too expensive at the moment.

Yeah, Good Olde ASUS A8N-E s939 DDR P.O.S. heading my way from internet auction. and . Yeah, it IS the same board I broke along with PSU when I shutdown Kubuntu last winter...It's coming with AMD 3500+ and 1Gb Kingston DDR. So now I've got 3 processors of same kind and more memory than fits my slots. If I had an extra MoBo, I think I would have a PC for a lifetime.

Now, if THIS operation does not fix the SIGSEGV#11 problem, and what I've seen lately as well, SIGABRT#6... ... I'll be damned! perkele...

Allright, allright, not allright. Back in business. ASUS A8N-E s939 MoBo did not make it. First, there was no sound at all, then the bugger stopped echoing anything on the screen! I changed the vid card, cable and LCD, but no help. Oh boy how I hated computers at that point.

So, I snooped around and took all my empty red wine bottles to recycling and did manage to raise the money for MSI MoBo, AM2 5200+ and 2Gb DDR2. No, still no new HDD, no.

For a 20 hrs, the Mojo has been powered up, logged off, but at least the former "Self Shutdown Procedures" at night have disappeared. I'll keep an eye on the notorious SIGSEGV #11's and keep the forum posted.

Isn't this a true Hardware Support thread (monologue) or what?!

LOL -- tafi, if this computer-building thing doesn't work out, I think maybe you have a career path as a comedian!

I'm not sure there's anything "Kubuntu" about your hardware problems, but it's good to see that you are sorting them out. Did you just plug in your hard drive to the new mobo and bring up Kubuntu? And it's running trouble-free? That's fairly amazing, given that it is an entirely different mobo -- probably different sound chip, ethernet chip, and everything else, huh?

Thanks man, I'll keep that career in mind. Yes, plugged ye olde HDD right in, but I think there's no sound at all right now. But that's no problem at the moment. Yes, Kubuntu is fairly PNP with all new hardware.

Right, I believe, very strongly, that the MoBo change was what I needed. It's been OK now from the start! For the short period of time, when ASUS A8N-E did it's job, I didn't see any SIGSEGV#11 errors either. Great!

The lesson learned, don't fiddle with cheap MoBos with integrated graphics in Desktop Computers! I've been 30years into computers, and I've heard the mantra before as well, but there was nothing else in the shops at that time. I also broke the rule of not buying used mobo or HDD with ASUS purchase.

So, that's it with this thread, let it go down to oblivion. Thanks folks!

Coming late to this thread, may I make an observation. I've just had a motherboard fail completely, an Asus m2npv-vm, and hindsight strongly suggests it failed by being stressed by a dodgy power supply. The computer had been giving trouble for months, various problems, chiefly turning off when starting from cold. When I put in a new mobo, it behaved the same way occasionally. Replaced power supply, and now it's sweet.
