    Compaq CQ40-324TU - Sound options[SOLVED]

    Hi,

    Just for record purposes and to help the next newbie along...

    for this compaq c40 laptop, sound options mentioned in the ubuntu forum ( the info there is a little messy with many links criss crossing ) work . they are shown below;

    options snd-pcsp index=-2
    options snd slots=snd-hda-intel
    options snd-hda-intel model=hp-m4
    alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
    options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=1

    All the above appended to the alsa-base.conf file (/etc/modprobe/alsa-base.conf)

    pulseaudio has to be installed as well.

                Did you check the mixer settings (the speaker in the panel, bottom right), and the System Settings -> Multimedia settings? If you did, and all looks reasonable, I would suggest you post screenshots so you guys can compare ...

                (keep in mind that the stuff in the original post only regards the very low-level alsa configuration, there are other aspects to sound)

                  i've already checked alsa mixer and kmix and unmuted all of the options...

                          i've solved the sound problem finally!!

                          for others who encountered the same problem, this is what i did:

                          follow the instructions in the 1st post

                          then put these into the Konsole

                          killall pulseaudio

                              I had that problem on my old Gateway m657prr.

                              In order to switch the sound output between speaker or headphones I had to edit the "front" and "rear" locations in the Mixer. Setting the "rear" to "front" or visa versa. I've forgotten exactly what, but messing around with the speaker locations did it.
