ATI proprietary fglrx, how? Mobility Radeon x2300

    Hello all..
New to Kubuntu (2 days). I have been using openSUSE for years now.
I found out that I cannot install driver by just running driver downloaded from AMD site, also, heard that kernel 2.6.29 has some problem with it.

Well, I tried to install from KPackageManager xorg-fglrx package, but that broke my kubuntu beyond repair. No matter what I did with xorg.conf, I couldnt restore graphics, and since I dont know how ubuntu works, I reinstalled it (was easier options).

So, what should I do to install fglrx driver so I can get accelleration working?

    Thank you,
    Emil

Here's a post detailing how one could install xorg-xserver 1.5.2 from intrepid onto Jaunty:

      http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1171445

The thing that gets me is that our ATI chips are listed under the supported section in ATI/AMD's release notes from 9.4-9.6. Is ATI/AMD just playing with us here? Or is it that Catalyst 9.4-9.6 is support our chips under xserver 1.5.x but not for xserver 1.6.x? This idea doesn't make sense since ATI/AMD's proprietary binary drivers started supporting xserver 1.6 from 9.4 on. To test out that theory, I tried installing ubuntu packages, created from Catalyst 9.4 and 9.5 binaries, on my intrepid x86_64 install (yes, I'm not going to install Jaunty if the radeon drivers are not ready for primetime), and both were no go under an environment running xserver 1.5.2. Strange...

        Thank you for the link.
Yes, ATI drivers for the cards that are newest, or old works, however, 12-6 months ago cards are not working with 1.6.0. ATI is to blame. I hear that they will fix the problem, as soon as "it becomes possible".... afraid that it's polite way to say "ha ha ha, imbeciles".

FYI: If you do not like the CLI way, there's an i386 deb of xserver 1.5.2 compiled by a kde developer for Jaunty
